Medical Education Opportunities for Physicians in Prince Edward Island

The University of Prince Edward Island Faculty of Medicine delivers undergraduate medical education through Memorial University’s regional campus at UPEI while advancing the development of a future UPEI Doctor of Medicine program in partnership with Memorial.

Medical learners at Memorial’s regional campus complete their education in Prince Edward Island and receive a Doctor of Medicine degree from Memorial University. Through this model, PEI was able to begin training medical learners sooner while benefiting from Memorial’s established curriculum, expertise in distributed and rural medical education, and longstanding commitment to excellence in teaching, innovation, and learner success.

The success of medical education in Prince Edward Island depends on the engagement and expertise of physicians across the province. Physicians play a vital role in teaching, mentoring, supervising, and inspiring the next generation of health-care professionals, while helping shape the future of medical education in PEI.

Working collaboratively with Memorial University, Health PEI, and physician partners, the Faculty of Medicine is committed to supporting both new and experienced medical educators through faculty development opportunities, educational resources, and ongoing academic support.

As UPEI advances the development of its future Doctor of Medicine program and explores opportunities in postgraduate medical education and residency training, physician engagement will remain central to building a sustainable medical education continuum that reflects the needs of Prince Edward Island.
